New York Giants vs Minnesota Vikings

Date and Location: December 21 2025, MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ.

Reflections: You never forget your first NFL game. For some of us (me), it was a frightening, half-drowned experience in which random cannon fire nearly caused you to jump out of the cheap seats you clung on to for dear life. For others (my best friend), it was spent howling for quarterback Jaxson Dart to “throw the ball” around mouthfuls of Maine lobster roll. A spectrum, to say the least.

Despite being the catalyst for my descent into NFL madness, my dearest best friend had never actually attended a game in person. Being New York Jets and Cleveland Browns fans respectively, the choice to attend the New York Giants vs Minnesota Vikings was probably as random as it seemed, but it was local, and it was cheap. “Cheap” is also a spectrum, to say the least.

The EY Coaches Club at Metlife Stadium is, in its own words, “the most exclusive, high-end, all-inclusive gameday experience” on offer. Although alcoholic beverages are not included in the price, the range of food on offer is astonishing, ranging from beef tenderloin to lobster rolls, as well as a sushi chef in-house. The seats are directly behind the New York Giants’ bench, and in a further bonus that turned out to be the highlight of the day, attendees are allowed out on the field after the match.

Given these inclusions, it’s almost understandable that tickets for in-demand matches can go as high as $700. Ours were decidedly less. As someone who had, up until that point, only ever paid $50 maximum for seats, I hesitated. Could it ever truly be worth the $273 I was staring down the barrel of?
The match, no. The seats, inclusions, and staff? Absolutely.

We headed out to Metlife through the American Dream mall, getting there about an hour and a half before kick-off. While I’m absolutely a tailgater when given the chance, I’m also a Libra who had decided that the chance to wear a stylish outfit to a game was worth going out in 20 degrees Fahrenheit (-6C, dear Europeans) sans tights. While I’m naturally fairly cold resistant, we headed indoors pretty quickly after a cursory glance at the gameday events and entertainments. Upon arriving at the EY Coaches Club, we were welcomed inside and offered a chocolate stirrer as a gift by staff who were all too happy to give us one to take home for my friend’s father. It was a lovely, touching gesture – as was the later offering of a gameday pin to my friend when we found that the small helmets I tend to collect at matches had sold out. It was the last match before Christmas, and we really felt the Christmas spirit.

By the fourth quarter, however, the crowd was feeling a little less generous. The match was a slow one, with the majority of the points scored in the first half coming from field goals and no points at all scored during the third quarter. After New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart made multiple failed attempts at scrambling for a rushing touchdown, a collective shout of “throw the ball” resounded throughout the stadium, followed by a cheer when he agreed to the universal request. It did very little. The final attempts at making up points on both sides came in the form of kicking field goals, meaning that the Minnesota Vikings crawled to a 16-13 victory and that the remaining crowd left despondent.

Having field access, we stayed put, taking photos at various points on the Metlife field. Perhaps in response to the deflated atmosphere of the attendees, or perhaps in yet another display of Christmas spirit, the New York Giants’ marching band took to the field and proceeded to deliver an electrifying ten minute performance. As a cheap-seat dweller, I’ve never been seated close enough to really appreciate the mix of musical talent and athletic ability which powers a marching band forward. I enjoyed it almost as much as watching my best friend experience the collective energy of a real game for the first time, and we can’t wait to go back to Metlife for the New York Jets vs Cleveland Browns game at some point next Fall.

Final Score: 16 – 13. It looks far, far closer than it felt.

Best Food or Drink: I could eat those lobster rolls every day for the rest of my life. If I ever win the lottery, I plan to.
